I first met this beautiful mama while she was still pregnant when I had the honor of doing her maternity photos. She was one of those pregnant women that absolutely glows. During her maternity session she snuggled her daughter and her adorable bump while I captured their sweet connection. We talked about living here in Rocklin, California. We discovered that we live not only in the same neighborhood, but around the corner from each other! One of the great things about Rocklin is that it’s located close to Sacramento and Roseville but has a small town feel. I was so excited when she said she wanted to do a lifestyle newborn session!
Lifestyle newborn photography is so special to me for a number of reasons. One of the reasons is that it captures those first few days at home, adjusting to life with a brand new baby. The days might feel long but the moments are fleeting. Before you know it those babies aren’t so little anymore. Often times people move once they have a child/children. Having photos in their original house that they brought their baby home to is something that will surely be cherished for years to come.
Siblings are part of the session too
During a newborn session with siblings I try and start with the older brother or sister in as many photos as they are willing to be in. Then, as the session goes on they are free to go play, take a snack break or regroup if needed. This adorable older sister gave the best kisses to her new baby brother. She wanted to help with him and loved to be silly and make us all laugh. It always amazes me how a toddler suddenly looks so big when a new baby is welcomed into the family.
Lifestyle photos throughout the house
With this in home newborn session, we started in the master bedroom where the natural window light was beautiful. I loved watching this new family of four interact with each other. Their love for each other was so sweet to document. Moms laying down next to their new babies, older siblings exploring their tiny toes and fingers and how small they always look in their dads arms are some of my favorite images to capture.
We moved to the living room next where they cuddled on the couch and relaxed together. After that we transitioned to the nursery. Capturing the nursery details are special because I know the time and thought that goes into each one. While planning for your new baby you want each detail to be perfect and often obsess over what to put into their nursery.
Before our session
Before my newborn sessions I typically ask for a couple photos of the nursery. This ensures that I have coordinating swaddles or gowns for baby to wear. This navy swaddle blanket by Lou Lou and Co was the perfect match to the crib bedding and adorable modern nursery.
Taking newborn photos for this sweet family filled my heart with joy. Their love and compassion for each other was so authentic and heart warming. Having the opportunity to provide lifestyle newborn photos is something I absolutely love and am honored to do.
